Ma nl jjong bok eum (Sauteed garlic stems)

 

  3/4 lb ma nl jjong (garlic stem) *

  1.5 tablespoons vegetable oil

  1 teaspoon sugar

  1 teaspoon soy sauce

  1/2 teaspoon salt

  1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Heat the pan, add oil, saute garlic stem for 3-4 minutes until fork tender. Add soy sauce, sugar, salt, cook briefly. Finish with sesame seeds.

* Garlic stem is hard to find in regular grocery but you can get from Korean market.
   The taste is not strong as garlic itself, just enough to enjoy the flavor.
   Trim top and bottom, cut into 2-3 inches.
